The accidental expatriate blogger behind Simple Island Map

Hi, I am Charlotte
I work as a project manager. I am a parent. An expatriate residing in London, United Kingdom.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to United Kingdom wasn’t part of the big plan. Like many international assignments, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily chores felt tougher than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning on the job. Yet gradually, routines settled in. We found places that fit us, met other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Simple Island Map
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in United Kingdom.
What This Site Represents (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Real-world insights gained from living in United Kingdom
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site is not:
- An official tourism-board resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our stay in United Kingdom continues, along with the ongoing learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue recording what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in London or anywhere in United Kingdom, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Charlotte
